a changing horizon

it's been approximately ten months since i last posted -  one could create an entire human life in that time frame. we've mostly just watched tv and became weirder together.

life is a funny thing. the more settled you begin to feel, the more the horizon changes. sometimes at night we talk in the dark about the future and take wild ventures of where we will be in 5 years. at the moment, neither of us can predict with certainty where we will be in 2 months.

we will likely be living elsewhere. but we're not sure where, yet.
we will likely still have our same jobs. but that is up for (constant) discussion.
we will likely still be us. but we may have a puppy.
or a baby?
hopefully a puppy first.

with everything up in the air anxiety wraps around my small shoulders like a cobra, growing heavy with each day of uncertainty and unanswered questions.  while nothing can completely alleviate this overwhelming weight i feel, the consistencies in my life can: mr. k, my friends, my family, and my faith.

the one fact that i do know is this: with mr. k by my side, we can weather whatever comes our way - even this crazy utah weather.

a summer of adventures - in pictures

as these glorious summer days come to a close, i am finally updating this blog about our whirlwind of a summer.

|.TUACAHN.|
in june we went to down south with two of our couple friends and rented a home for the weekend.
we went to tuacahn to see the little mermaid, ate far too much, and had a good weekend getaway.

|.RIVER RAFTING.|
later in june we went up to vernal with kort's family.
we went to the dinosaur museum, went on the dams| tour, and rafted down the river.

*my favorite picture of this little man!

 feeding the dam fish

and finally some river rafting

|.PHOENIX.|
we drove down to phoenix for the 4th of july weekend to see my nephew get baptized. my best friend came up from new mexico and we spent a couple fantastic days together and celebrated my birthday at maggianos restaurant. unfortunately, my car alternator died on our drive back so we spent an unexpected night in st. george. but all's well that ends well, right?

 |.BIG BEAR LAKE.|
the record reunion happened at big bear lake, ca. while it was overcast and slightly rainy most of the weekend, we played games, swam, visited the lake (which was much lower than normal), and were fascinated by the wood bear carvings.

adventure is...

we're trying to embrace the ever-apparating adversity as another adventure.

adventure is for the brave. adventure is worthwhile. adventure makes you richer in character and mind. adventure is often ridiculous but somehow evolves into a rewarding experience.

and so we are learning about life together in a surprising and unconventional way. i can't say i wouldn't have it any other way, but i wouldn't have anyone else besides me.

reading is bliss

reading. it's my thing.

i read, mr. k watches the nba playoffs, everybody is happy. but as happens with all married couples eventually, we're starting to become like each other. while he refuses to read my "girlish" books mr. k has been intently reading a book about navy seals - very manly.  meanwhile i get sucked into the tv around the fourth quarter and have developed a deep hatred for certain players *ahem, stephensen* and a great admiration for others.

this is all to bring up a little gem of a quote by the legendary nora ephron, director of "you've got mail" (only one of the greatest romantic comedies of our time) which revolves around bookstores and bouquets of newly sharpened pencils.

“reading is everything. reading makes me feel like i’ve accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. reading makes me smarter. reading gives me something to talk about later on. reading is the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with reality after a day of making things up, and it’s a way of making contact with someone else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real. reading is grist. reading is bliss.”
- nora ephron -

so i hope you find yourself lost in a good book soon.

currently i am re-reading "the fault in our stars" *sigh* and can hardly wait for the movie, which according to hellogiggles is "literally perfect" and "stands alongside 'the notebook' and 'titanic' as being one of the best big screen romances in modern movie history". dang gina! do you know what that means? i will have an entire box of tissues inside the theater.
if you haven't read that lovely quick-read yet, i advise you to do so. like, right now.

adventure awaits

we have moved! both literally and in the blogsphere.

welcome to our new blog! i transferred the few posts i had written from mrandmrskay.com over here to skip the whole renewal fees on wordpress. the best things in life are free, right?

i will attempt to be better about updating and writing so the 5 people that follow this thing will know what's going on in with us.  so without further ado... welcome to our adventures!

moonlight

i was going to write something really extraordinary but i'm fresh out of greatness.  i used it all up at work today.

tonight i look forward to crawling into bed and staring at mr. k's profile with the moonlight streaming through the grey curtains.  that's my favorite time of the day -- when we climb in the sheets and the world falls away.  we talk in the darkness and it seems like the safest place on earth.  when his snoring begins, i ironically feel a tremendous gratitude and happiness to be his. the one he loves. his wife.
