reading. it's my thing.
i read, mr. k watches the nba playoffs, everybody is happy. but as happens with all married couples eventually, we're starting to become like each other. while he refuses to read my "girlish" books mr. k has been intently reading a book about navy seals - very manly. meanwhile i get sucked into the tv around the fourth quarter and have developed a deep hatred for certain players *ahem, stephensen* and a great admiration for others.
this is all to bring up a little gem of a quote by the legendary nora ephron, director of "you've got mail" (only one of the greatest romantic comedies of our time) which revolves around bookstores and bouquets of newly sharpened pencils.
“reading is everything. reading makes me feel like i’ve
accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. reading
makes me smarter. reading gives me something to talk about later on. reading is
the unbelievably healthy way my attention deficit disorder medicates itself. reading is escape, and the opposite of escape; it’s a way to make contact with
reality after a day of making things up, and it’s a way of making contact with
someone else’s imagination after a day that’s all too real. reading is grist. reading is bliss.”
- nora ephron -
so i hope you find yourself lost in a good book soon.
currently i am re-reading "the fault in our stars" *sigh* and can hardly wait for the movie, which according to hellogiggles is "literally perfect" and "stands alongside 'the notebook' and 'titanic' as being one of the best big screen romances in modern movie history". dang gina! do you know what that means? i will have an entire box of tissues inside the theater.
if you haven't read that lovely quick-read yet, i advise you to do so. like, right now.
